Nurse Assistant Training Program Overview


This Nurse Assistant Training program, offered by the American Red Cross, meets and exceeds Federal and State training requirements. The four-week course is 120 hours and includes 40 hours of clinical experience. The class size is 10 students and through lecture, videos, role-playing, and laboratory practice, students learn procedural skills such as bathing, dressing, positioning, and vital signs. Equally important, they also learn excellent communications skills and the Art of Caregiving to provide compassionate care for people in the health care system. The classroom is equipped with hospital beds and medical equipment to perform skills.

On graduation, students are eligible to take the Virginia State Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) exam.


Workplace Training Program


The American Red Cross is also committed to stressing the importance to businesses of having employees that are certified in lifesaving first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED). Through our Workplace Training Program, health and safety instructors will come to your place of business with all necessary materials, to conduct training classes at your convenience.


Disaster Services Education


Red Cross Disaster Service Training classes are free for Red Cross Disaster Volunteers

Each year, nationwide the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than 67,000 disasters. Disasters include hurricanes, floods, blizzards, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents, explosives and other man-made disasters.


International Services


American Red Cross tracing or location services are provided to people in the community who have been separated from their relatives (citizens of other countries) as a result of war, civil disturbance, natural disaster, or changing world conditions over which an individual has no control.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION


Students may register in person (cash, check or credit card): American Red Cross Orientation and Registration sessions held twice a month.

Course Fee $1,000
Includes:

  • Registration fee: $100 (non refundable)
  • Tuition
  • Text Books
  • Stethoscope & Blood Pressure Equipment
  • CPR, First Aid & AED Certification
  • Background Check
  • Red Cross Photo Badge

 

Additional requirements that are the Student's responsibility:

  • Provide evidence of Tuberculosis negative PPD Testing – prior to class start date
  • Arrange for and pass Drug Screen urine test - prior to class start date
  • Obtain Uniform for clinical experience (last week of class):
    • Red shirt with collar
    • White pants
    • White shoes (with backs)/ or clean Tennis shoes
    • Watch with second hand
  • Fee to take Virginia Certification Exam (CNA) following graduation - $94
We are planning to add an evening /weekend course as soon as possible.
 
Health and Safety Classes: CPR, AED, First Aid

The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area has an urgent need for Sign Language Interpreters. Each year, the National Capital Area Chapter trains tens of thousands of individuals in lifesaving skills such as CPR and first aid. We provide HIV/AIDS education and water safety training for people of all ages and babysitting training for teens 11-15.
