The Nurse Assistant Training Program offered through the American Red Cross located in Alexandria Virginia is now approved by MyCAA (Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts). MyCAA is an employment assistance program that provides up to $4,000 of financial assistance to eligible military spouses who are pursuing a license, certification or Associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation. The American Red Cross has been involved in nursing for more than 100 years and is proud to be continuing that tradition through our 120 hour Virginia Board of Nursing approved program. Currently, we offer a four week day course and a six week evening course at our Old Town Alexandria location with plans to expand to our Fairfax location in February 2012.

After successful completion you will be presented with a certificate which enables you to take the Virginia State exam and become a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant. Having this license allows you to work in other states such as Maryland and even the District of Columbia. Also, when the time to relocate out of state occurs you may seek reciprocity through the Department of Health for the state which you will be moving.

Our courses are small and personable with a class size no larger than 10 students and instructed by Registered Nurses. The nurse instructors are very approachable, caring, and provide you with all the knowledge you will need to successfully pass your state board exam. The clinical practice area is complete with hospital beds, wheelchairs, and other medical equipment providing you the opportunity for hands on experience. Our students perform their 40 hour clinical rotation at the Goodwin House in Alexandria which at that time under the supervision of the nurse instructors are paired up with actual C.N.A.’s and assist them in their daily patient assignments.
