Fairfax, Va. (June 8, 2009) – The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area announced its newest slate of board members who will serve their community through this important disaster relief organization. The new members were nominated and confirmed at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area on May 21. The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area is responsible for a sprawling jurisdiction that includes the District; Prince George’s, Montgomery and Fairfax Counties; the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church; a field office on Fort Belvoir and a presence at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Andrews Air Force Base. The National Capital Area Chapter also serves as the regional headquarters, which includes the Red Cross chapters in Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William and Loudoun. The chapter’s very active board is charged with advancing public and private partnerships that will enable them to meet the ambitious goals of responding to major natural or human-caused disasters with expanded resources and skill. The board is a prestigious group of local business leaders who are committed to advancing the mission of the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area and to making this the best prepared, the most responsive and the most fully engaged community in the nation—before, during and after emergencies of all kinds. With Board Chair Wendell Johns stepping out of that position, IMC Executive Vice President Suresh Shenoy has assumed the position of chairman. Teresa Carlson, vice president of federal government for Microsoft has assumed the vice chairmanship of the Board, the position that Shenoy has vacated.
