The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area has an urgent need for Sign Language Interpreters. Each year, the National Capital Area Chapter trains tens of thousands of individuals in lifesaving skills such as CPR and first aid. We provide HIV/AIDS education and water safety training for people of all ages and babysitting training for teens 11-15. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer in this area, please visit our how to volunteer to start the process of becoming a volunteer with our chapter. You can take the CPR, First Aid and other Red Cross training online then come into on of the Chapter’s training sites to complete your skills training. This program is ideal for those wishing to re-certify their certifications without having to sit through the traditional classroom course. For those who’s training has been over two year or better or are first time students a traditional instructor lead class room course may be ideal Basic information for the classes:
- All CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications are valid for 1 year from the date of completion. For information on research studies about 1 year vs. 2 year certifications click here.
- First Aid Courses certifications are valid for 3 years from the date of completion.
- Infant CPR is birth to 1 year, Child CPR is 1 year to 12 years of age, and Adult CPR is 12 years and older, except when using an AED then the Adult age begins at 8years of age or 55 pounds.
