Description This three hour course consists of two modules and is designed to prepare participants to go out into the community to provide preparedness presentations. The first module covers the logistics of serving as a Red Cross Community Disaster Education Trainer. The second module reviews two popular CDE presentations.
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to prepare Community Disaster Education Trainers to give Community Disaster Education presentations specific to the needs of the National Capital Region. Such disaster safety topics include: residential fires, winter storms, tornadoes, floods, thunder and lightning storms, heat waves and disaster supplies kits.
Learning Objectives
- After successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Explain the mission and fundamental principles of the American Red Cross.
- Demonstrate the behavior required to serve as a Red Cross representative.
- Become completely familiar with Red Cross CDE materials and understand how to teach standardized presentations.
- Gain awareness in how to serve as a CDE Trainer for the Red Cross in the National Capital Region
- Understand how to maintain complete, accurate and timely records and reports
Audience Red Cross employees and volunteers who would like to become trained to provide the community with disaster preparedness education.

This course takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
