The Red Cross movement began on a battlefield. Today, that same spirit is present wherever American troops are deployed and anxious families wait at home. The American Red Cross promises to be there whenever or wherever our help is needed. At one time or another, all military personnel and their family members will probably benefit from knowing about and using Red Cross services.

American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) are available to all members of the armed services, and to their families. Both active duty and community-based military can count on the Red Cross to provide emergency communications, access to emergency financial assistance, information and referral, veterans assistance and aid in the field where Red Cross workers are deployed to serve with America's military.

Get To Know Us Before You Need Us
Many service members are being deployed and this has a profound effect on family members. In an effort to educate service members and their family members before deployment, the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area Armed Forces Emergency Services provides briefings to military personnel and their families about the services available to them through the Red Cross. Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in assisting military members and their families? Call us. We are looking for volunteers! Current opportunities in AFES include:
- Emergency Caseworker Team-Team members and leaders are needed to provide emergency communication, access to financial assistance, information and referral to military personnel and their families.
- Military Briefing Team-Team members and leaders are needed to present on-site informative briefings for military personnel and family members regarding the important services provided by the American Red Cross.
- AFES Administrative Services Team-AFES Administrative Services Team-Team members are needed to coordinate the smooth operation of the various programs provided by AFES.
- Treats for Troops Volunteers-Help deliver goodies to local service members on holidays. (Such as Thanksgiving and Christmas).
