Washingtonian Magazine January 2009 Edition Recognizes Linda Mathes and the National Capital Area
Annually, the Washingtonian Magazine honors Washington, D.C. area citizens who work to help make this area a better place to live and work.
This year, Chief Executive Officer, Linda Mathes and the National Capital Area were recognized among a list of other impressive
"Washingtonians of the Year" which included NBC4's Doreen Gentzler and Georgetown University President John DeGioia.
Linda Mathes and the National Capital Area were acknowledged for their daily commitment and hard work to help educate,
equip and empower people to prepare for and respond to disasters or other life-threatening emergencies within their communities.
The recognition received from the Washingtonian is about the team of Red Cross volunteers and staff who remain dedicated to

National Capital Area Chapter Provides Briefing on Inauguration Preparations
Fairfax, VA (Dec. 12, 2008) - The National Capital Area Chapter hosted a press briefing that gave reporters a glimpse into how we are gearing up
to handle the influx of visitors and preparing for and ready to respond to emergenices whenever and wherever they may happen.
Your local Red Cross is immersed in preparations for the millions of visitors expected in the D.C. area for the
2009 Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20th.

The Only Academy-Sanctioned Oscar Night DC Viewing Party in the D.C. Area - February 22, 2009
There are only 52 Oscar Night America viewing parties nationwide and Oscar Night DC is
one of those exclusive events. The 2009 Oscar Night DC viewing party for the 81st Annual Academy Awards will
be at Hard Rock Cafe, 999 E Street, NW on Feb. 22, 2009. Sponsorships are available at the $50,000, $25,000,
$10,000, $5,000, $2,500 levels; VIP tickets are $150 per person (price increases to $180 after Feb. 5th) and general admission tickets
are $85 per person. All proceeds will benefit the important work of the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area.

Yesterday's Rose is a thrift store located at 9960 Main Street, Fairfax, VA.

The Red Cross receives a portion of the proceeds from the sale of clothing, shoes, furniture and other household items from this store.
We partner with Yesterday's Rose by requesting interested volunteers to work a minimum of 12 hours weekly. (Training provided.)
